Kevin Washburn Takes the Helm at UNM Law School

Dean Kevin K. WashburnKevin Washburn was headed to law school when he first came to New Mexico to attend the American Indian Law Center's Pre-Law Summer Institute ( PLSI), housed at the University of New Mexico School of Law. On July 1, he became the school's ninth dean.

At UNM, Washburn looks forward to re-energizing the school's focus on its core values and ideals and to build on its strong sense of community by reconnecting alumni to the community inside Bratton Hall.

 


Professor Michael Norwood Named Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs

Professor J. Michael NorwoodProfessor Michael Norwood has been appointed associate dean of clinical affairs and will assume the position on July 1.

Since joining the UNM law faculty in 1971, he has focused much of his teaching and scholarship on clinical education, and previously he served as clinical director from 1983-1992.

Currently, Norwood centers his work in children's advocacy, technology law and computer applications, and is most interested in developing sustainable, community-oriented law clinics.


Professor Sherri Burr Wins More Awards for her Writing

Professor Sherri BurrProfessor Sherri Burr has received a first place award in the National Federation of Press Women Communications Contest for her audio book titled, Sum & Substance on Entertainment Law. The category was instructional nonfiction books.

She also garnered an honorable mention in information columns for "Minding Finances for Writers," a monthly column she writes for Southwest Sage, the monthly newsletter of SouthWest Writers.
