Faculty members frequently donate review copies of textbooks to the Library. These are typically made available to law students for free on a first-come, first-served basis. Retiring faculty members contemplating a more significant donation of material from their office should contact Sherri Thomas, 277-2228 and review the library gift policy.
Borrowing & Renewals
UNM Law faculty (including adjuncts and visitors) may check out any item held by the Law Library with a valid UNM ID.
The loan period for regular and adjunct law faculty members is one year from the date of initial check-out with four renewals allowed. The loan period for visiting faculty members extends until the end of the semester in which the item is checked out, with one renewal allowed. Renew books by taking them to the circulation desk or calling 277-6236.
Gain access to your UNM library record using your UNM ID number and library account password.
The Library initiates contact with Bloomberg Law, Lexis Nexis, New Mexico One Source, and Westlaw on behalf of new faculty members who then receive an email from each service with instructions for password activation. The Library will facilitate communication about password or database problems with the services’ account representatives.
Faculty & Clinic Libraries
The Faculty Library space is administered by the law school (not the Library). If you have any questions or concerns, contact Krista Allen, 277-2323.
The following sets of books are kept current in the Faculty Library:
- Indian Law Reporter
- New Mexico Appellate Reports
- New Mexico Bar Bulletin
- New Mexico Statutes Annotated
- United States Code Annotated
- United States Supreme Court Reports, Lawyer’s Edition
In addition, the Library maintains a current copy of the New Mexico Statutes Annotated in the Clinic's library.
Faculty Request Portal
The Faculty Request Portal provides a simple and reliable method to initiate and track the progress of requests for assistance. Sign in using your UNM law username and password (the same one used to sign in to the law school network), and the request will be routed to the appropriate individual in the library.
The Library acquires materials necessary to support the school of law’s teaching and research needs. Please use the Faculty Request Portal to make a purchase request.
The Library works with the law school and the university’s physical plant department regarding issues relating to its physical space. To notify the Library about custodial needs or other facilities problems, please use the Maintenance Request Form.
New faculty members will be contacted by a librarian to schedule a library orientation session. This session introduces the faculty member to library personnel and services and allows the librarians to become familiar with the faculty member's research, instruction, and service agendas. Of course, a re-orientation session can be scheduled for any faculty member, no matter how long they have been here.
Faculty and staff who plan to give tours of the library to individuals or groups should contact Alexandra Siek, 277-0089 to ensure there is not a conflicting use at the same time and to be updated on the Library’s quiet zones. Visits are prohibited during the Reading Period and Final Examination Period. To determine the dates of the Reading and Final Examination Periods refer to the UNM School of Law's academic calendar.
