Study Carrels
The Library houses just over 100 study carrels. Almost all of them are wired with electrical and network connections so that students can plug in laptop computers to access the Internet, email, and their Law School accounts.
Assigned Carrels
Research assistants, tutors, and journal staff who present a signed Carrel Request Form from the professor they work for or from the appropriate journal advisor are assigned a carrel. Carrels are assigned for the academic year (both Fall and Spring semesters) unless the student no longer meets the criteria for having an assigned carrel. UNM Law School May graduates who are studying for the July bar exam also qualify for carrels upon submission of a Carrel Request Form. Library materials may not be left in assigned carrels unless the material is checked out to the person assigned to that carrel.
Open Carrels
All unassigned carrels are open carrels and may be used by anyone. At least 20 carrels are permanently identified as “open.” No personal items, research, or Library materials may be left in open carrels. The open carrels are cleared out each night.
Please see the Law Library Circulation staff to obtain a Carrel Request Form and information about carrel availability.
