Borrowing & Renewals
UNM Law Students may check out circulating materials, Indian collection materials, desk reserves, and course reserves with a valid UNM ID. The loan period for items from the general collection extends until the end of the semester during which they are checked out, with two renewals allowed. The loan period for reserves and academic support materials is two hours. Renew books through your library account, at the circulation desk, or by calling 277-6236.
Borrowers are billed for replacement of unreturned materials. If the bill is not paid, a hold is placed on the student’s record that may prevent registering for classes or obtaining transcripts.
Gain access to your UNM library record using your UNM ID number and library account password.
Borrowing Materials from Other Libraries
This service is known as interlibrary loan (ILL) and its purpose is to obtain materials that are not available at UNM libraries. The law library provides free ILL service to law students. To initiate a request please select "Interlibrary Loan" in the student request form.
Please note:
• Physical ILL requests will take 1-2 weeks or more through standard mail depending on the lending library and region they are shipping from.
• Lending libraries do not send tracking numbers for physical ILLs nor do they provide live updates of shipping information. Books will always take 1-2 weeks or more
• ILLs are sent standard mail at no extra charge to UNM departments or its students. Expedient services such as UPS and FedEx are not available for ILL requests, no exceptions.
• ILL scans can be delivered faster than physical book requests and can be received same day or next day via Email or OCLC document delivery depending on the lending library. Scans are limited to 20 pages. These scans may or may not be in PDF format, nor can we request that scans be in PDF format.
• Scans of full books are not possible. A physical ILL request must be made to obtain a full book.
• For citation scans, a title page is suggested, page numbers and or chapter numbers are to be provided by Journal students for quicker turnaround times. Books will always take 1-2 weeks or more
• ILL requests for main campus libraries will still take 1-2 weeks or more. If a student needs a book sooner, they must go to the main campus library and check out the book themselves. Same day book delivery is available for Faculty research only.
• Information about ILL requests can only be given to the patron/student/faculty member that submitted the request. This information is protected under the Library Privacy Act of New Mexico (NMSA 18-9-1 to 18-9-6) Please respect our staff and policies if we are unable to share personal information.
